We were surprised and delighted to find out that Dad was coming over to visit for a couple of weeks.
Because there was the equivalent of a Bank Holiday on the weekend in the middle, all the possibilities for getting out of the city were fully booked, and since Lon had only just got back from a month in Kabul, time off wasn't really an option. That meant we spent most of our time in Dhaka, and because of the current instability http://www.guardian.co.uk/ world/2013/feb/28/bangladesh- death-sentence-deadly-protests we stayed in or near the diplomatic areas, not so exciting, but there was still plenty to see, hear and experience, and our afternoons by the pool at the Dutch club were very pleasant indeed.
Gulshan 2 DCC Market - the place where most everyday things can be found
this orange rickshaw appeared outside the Dutch club one day - and he was happy to pose for the camera - the story behind this (http://www.1we.com/web/show/id=78284/langid=43)

As well as souvenirs, and items from the ship-breaking trade.
We went to the "garden centre" area in Baridara one afternoon. More interesting than the plants are the people behind who earn their living by breaking broken bricks into smaller pieces for use in construction
