Places I shop

Southwest Gardens, aka Road 99 organic shop

This is one of those places that you could never stumble on on your own.  I found it via a websearch, where it was mentioned in a blog post.

The markets here a full of pretty wonderful looking produce. There is however a lot of pesticide and fertilizer use (not to mention I'm sure the irrigation water isn't from the arsenic free boreholes) in addition, formalin/ formaldehyde is used freely to increase shelf life.

Enter road 99.  Fresh veggies, some fruit, some fish and poultry, you go in and select for yourself the produce you want. No pesticide, no formalin, organic fertilizers. The veg isn't always pretty, and the choice is limited and seasonal, but I come and get the basics here, and top up from the supermarkets.

Now is the good cool season for veg, the caulis, broccoli and cabbages are really good just now.  I will be stocking up the freezer with these before the end of January.
