23-24 April Vik - Keflavik

23 April Day 5
the incredible sunshine finally left us, and it was a much more atmospheric drive with clouds, wind, rain and rainbows

Road leading off road to the gannet colony - a Top Gear moment

road back to the valley

good soups were a feature of Iceland lunches

brown sugar meringue was a delicious one-off

more geothermal

The Blue Lagoon -a tourist trap, but still fun

nice blonde beer

I would go back to Iceland in a heartbeat, we enjoyed the sense of otherness very much - the landscapes were immense and alien, the air clean and fresh, the food especially the fish and lamb were excellent.

21 April Skaftafell - Vatnajökull National Park - Jökulsárlon

21 April Day 3

An incredible day - a lot of driving, but to and through some awesome (in the actual sense of the word) and at times other worldly scenery.

Skógafoss

Roadside waterfall - which we decided was a jumping spot

wool creators
expecting trolls to appear any minute

Jökulsárlon is a large glacial lake in southeast Iceland, on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park. Situated at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier
we saw mini blue icebergs in the sea on a black volcanic beach
we watched seals playing in the lagoon
and found that ice is taste-free
