Koh Samet

There is not a great deal to say about the last leg of our trip.  We stayed for 5 nights over Christmas at the Nimmanoradee resort on the island of Koh Samet.  The resort was 50-50 thai:westerners and was at the very tip of the island.

our chalet

We spent our days hanging out in hammocks and deckchairs, reading and catching some sun

We walked to the other side of the island a few times to watch the sun set and feed the mosquitoes, watching out for the tree dwelling chickens on the way

Christmas dinner

and Christmas dessert

we did leave the resort one day to go on a snorkelling trip, and were relieved that we had chosen where we were, despite its so-so restaurant and not very good breakfast, as it appeared that the rest of the island was overdeveloped with package holiday european tourists baking together on a not very large beach

lovely beaches

only way on and off is by speedboat

Back in Bangkok we went to the Bangla mall and IKEA (sad sad people), and enjoyed all the trappings of the material world before our return to Dhaka.

they are the same wherever you go
