Musti

We have a new family member: Musti.

Our dear friend Bettina is leaving (left) Rwanda to go to here hometown of Berlin. Sad news. Her husband is still staying for a few months for work.

They have a cat and a dog (oh, and two children). We are taking over the cat, this way if it doesn't work out we can still give it back, not the we are planning to.

Musti is a female and looks like the twin of Neville, slightly smaller and half a year older. At the moment the easiest way to recognise Mutsi is that she is not wearing a collar.

The name Musti comes from a belgian TV programme. Drawn by a Belgian in 'Dick Bruna' (Miffy) style. See the website (with difficult puzzles)
www.musti.be
Her name might be abused, I like to call her Mutzig (local beer) or muts.
She is very good in languages, she listens as much to our english and dutch as to her german mothertongue! The guard might speak kinyarwanda or french to her.

The introduction went rather well. A lot of sniffing by Musti and Neville staring at her making growling noises at a 2 meter distance. No fighting.

We made Musti sleep in my study, she ate a lot, but spent a lot of time miauwing during the night. Today we decided to let Neville outside and Musti inside, seems to go alright, less stress. Tonight they can have a second introduction.

You need to let them get on with it in the same room - supervised for a few hours, to get to know each other. Tell tell signs are when one of them goes and sits in the middle of the room and starts washing. Could be a come on to a fight, but means that they are settled once they start washing openly.

Unlike a dog, a cat lieing down and rolling onto its back in a 'submissive' gesture, means they want to fight!! Also staring at them unblinking!! If you want to smile at a cat, close your eyes at them and sort of do a half closed eye smile.

Good book is the Nine Emotions of Cats, by a NZ guy (name escapes me).

It sounds like they might well get on though, they are both young! But even if they don't (as mine didn't) they will 'tolerate' each other!

It's getting better now, they can pass each other without hissing..there was even some direct sniffing last night. Musti made a break for it yesterday, by jumping from the balcony to the lawn (a bit more than 2 metres), and then got chased into the neighbours garden by Nev. Luckily she came back around seven..we were relieved that she hadn't gone back to her old house which is only about 1.5k up the hill...Nev on the other hand seemed less happy!!
