Wangala Garo harvest festival

Yet another festival. Like they say: it never rains, it comes pooring down.

After the Hindu and Muslims it is now a Garo festival.

A good friend of Hazel helped a lot of housemaids get a job, as it happens these are often Garo. As an honour she was invited to perform with them, we just had to go and witness this.

The Garo look different from Bangladeshi, I would say more Chinese or Indonesian.

The festival was nearby at a school play yard. There was a big tent. Performances were given and a lot of people seem to spend their time just siting in the tent.
Along the sides were stands. Slightly different than you would expect, of course food and tea, but also some cloths etc. As an extra there were some specific foods sold; a.o. live snails and eel, sweet potatoes, banana flowers.

It was a good opportunity for a minority to celebrate, show there best clothes; see and be seen. For me a nice photo opportunity.

There was one very familiar face in the crowd, our help Helen. She was very sweet and got us some tea and sambasas.

Sorry for the huge amount of photos, but I just had to post them.
